The licence case
Licence suspension after a DUI arrest in Tennessee
The licence proceeding has its own deadlines. Check the applicable notice or order, not just the criminal court date.
We have not confirmed an applicable hearing-request deadline for Tennessee, so this page does not state one. Check the notice or order for the agency or court handling review. An unpublished figure here does not mean there is no deadline.

What happens if the window closes
The effect of a missed hearing-request deadline depends on the proceeding and the applicable law. This page does not determine whether review is still available or whether a particular licence restriction applies. A defence lawyer can review the notice or order and explain the available procedures.
Whether Tennessee offers a restricted licence in that situation, and on what conditions, is a state-specific question:
- Hardship or restricted licence
- A restricted noncommercial licence may be available during a DUI or implied-consent suspension or revocation, subject to a court order, Department of Safety approval and the applicable eligibility requirements.
- Availability is conditional, not an assurance of approval. The agency lists DUI and implied consent among the reasons for which a restricted licence may be requested, but excludes Class A, B and C commercial licences.
- The application requires a certified, judge-signed restricted-licence order and current SR-22 insurance. The agency directs applicants to visit a Driver Services Center within ten days after the order is signed, with the order and other required documents, and pay the applicable fees.
- The department reviews the application and driving record. Other unresolved suspensions or revocations and additional legal disqualifications can prevent approval; issuance of an interim licence does not end that review.
- The restricted licence is valid only during the revocation period. Reinstatement of an unrestricted licence is a separate process.
- Ignition interlock, first offense
- Not published yet. We show a figure only once it has been confirmed against the official source and dated.
How the two cases relate
A licence restriction may arise from a test result, a refusal or a criminal conviction. Those are not interchangeable grounds. The source and conditions attached to each rule matter; this page does not predict how one proceeding will affect another in a particular case.
The two legal questions
The criminal charge and driving privileges can involve different proceedings. The notice, order and cited rule identify the applicable process.
